* RINGSIDE – The show opens with NYCW Commissioner JERRY GEORGATOS hitting the
ring and gloating about firing SOLOMON from NYCW last week. He
then announces that during the match with SOLOMON last week, NYCW Champion JON DULBERG was injured,
and will be out of action for about two weeks.
However, that won’t stop GEORGATOS from crowning a new number one
contender to the title in the champion’s absence. DULBERG will next
defend the championship on Thursday, June 19, when NYCW returns to the
Hammerstein Ballroom, the very venue in which DULBERG won his championship, and he will
defend it inside a steel cage. Who will
be his opponent? That will be decided
over the next four shows, beginning with a company-wide battle royal right here
tonight. 25 NYCW superstars will step
into the ring tonight, with the last eight men qualifying for a
single-elimination tournament beginning next week. The seeding will be determined by the order of elimination of the
final eight, with the winner of the battle royal being the first seed. As the fans buzz over this announcement, GEORGATOS drops the
microphone and heads to the back.
* MATCH 1 – THE OLD SCHOOL and JON SASS d. DA
BANDITZ and DYNAMITE DEAN NASH in 8:16 when SASS pinned NASH with the End of the Line.
* MATCH 2 – HYPNOTICA d. JESSICA
TILLMAN in 1:48 with a diving cross body. This marked the debut for HYPNOTICA, the seductive female with jet-black,
red-streaked hair, and multiple tattoos.
The fans most certainly took notice of the Santee, California native.
* BACKSTAGE – JOSH MCGUIRE is standing by backstage with NYCW newcomer GREG PRICE. PRICE, a highly touted addition the NYCW
roster, is no rookie, but a five-year veteran.
The South Orange, New Jersey native has spent years fine-tuning his
style in northeast independent promotions and has brought his game to
NYCW. PRICE promises to make an impact tonight in
the NYCW battle royal, and promises to get himself into the elite eight and
qualify for the tournament. However,
his interview is cut short by Indiana native KRIS ANTHONY, another rookie debuting in
tonight’s battle royal. As PRICE and ANTHONY argue, JOSH MCGUIRE comments that tensions
are at a high between the two NYCW newcomers and the shot fades.
* MATCH 3 – MIDDKNIGHT d. RYAN
VALENTINE in 4:18 after a reverse Death Valley Driver. This match marked the NYCW debut for
Hamilton, Ontario’s MIDDKNIGHT, who emerged victorious impressively. He will compete later tonight in the battle royal.
* MATCH 4 – BIG VERNON GOODWIN and SYDESWYPE d. THE
TYRANT and THE IRISH ASSASSIN JOE MALONE in 4:18 after SYDESWYPE rolled up MALONE. GOODWIN was scheduled to have a mystery
partner tonight, and announced SYDESWYPE, the Baxter Springs, Kansas native, as his partner. BIG VERNON and his equally big partner (6’4” 317)
emerged victorious, completing a successful NYCW debut for SYDESWYPE, a 29-year-old
eight-year veteran.
* MATCH 5 –
ERICA
d. LI MEI and DANA CHAPMAN in a triple
threat match. ERICA pinned LI MEI with a blue
thunder pinning combination at 2:16 for the win. NYCW Women’s Champion LIZ RUSH joined JUSTIN SCHENCK and FERNANDO RAMIREZ for commentary
in this one and noted the dominance displayed by ERICA, yet another impressive NYCW superstar
debuting tonight.
* BACKSTAGE – Moments before the big battle royal, JOSH MCGUIRE gets thoughts
from one of the favorites, RYAN “THE BOSS” KNAKAL. KNAKAL claims that it
is his destiny to defeat his cousin JON DULBERG for the NYCW Championship, and will go
through this entire tournament to do exactly that. The date June 19 will now be circled on his calendar, for after
getting through this tournament, it will be the day his destiny finally comes
to fruition.
