NYCW
HAMMERSTEIN BALLROOM
NEW YORK, NY
THURSDAY, MARCH 20, 2003
* MATCH 1: DAMIEN FIELDS
VS. DAMON SAVAGE:
A hot way to start off this edition of NYCW wrestling,
former tag team partners Damien Fields and Damon Savage square off. The two cruiserweights tell a tremendous
story in their match, Fields trying to keep the pace of the match slow, while
Savage, the Pomona, CA native who won the Golden Gloves in 2000, tries to
outrun his opponent, and go in for the knockout blow. That is exactly what happens, as Fields attempts to come off the
top rope with an axehandle, but is caught with a right hand to the face in
midair from the hard-hitting Savage.
Needless to say, Fields is unconscious and Savage is your winner.
WINNER: DAMON
SAVAGE (7:25)
* BACKSTAGE:
Backstage, Josh McGuire is standing by with D-Unit member
Bubbles, who has been left behind since Maverick and Darkstar jumped to the
PWA. Bubbles, by far the largest member
of D-Unit, says he’s still cool with his boys and they’ll be meeting up again
sometime soon. But for now, he’s gonna
raise hell in NYCW, starting tonight with Kilauea.
* MATCH 2: KILAUEA VS. BUBBLES:
Bubbles makes his in-ring debut here
against Kilauea, who can’t seem to buy a win lately. Today proves to be no exception, as Bubbles locks him in the
Spinal Contractor, picking up the easy victory.
WINNER: BUBBLES (4:23)
* MATCH 3: ANDREW LIVINGSTON VS.
FRANK BRIGGS:
The winner of this match will challenge
for the NYCW Heavyweight Championship next week. Frank Briggs, trying to make good on his promise to run through
the company until he gets a shot to become champion, takes it to Livingston
hard and fast in the opening moments of the match. Briggs has Livingston reeling, but the Mission Viejo, CA native
perseveres and, in an instant, rolls Briggs up and picks up the surprise
victory! Briggs is furious at the
conclusion of the match and proceeds to dismantle Livingston to the point that
it’s hard to imagine Livingston will make it to the title match next week.
WINNER: ANDREW LIVINGSTON (4:45)
* BACKSTAGE:
Josh McGuire is backstage with Sonny and
D-Gunz, questioning their surprise appearance on PWA Frequency last Tuesday. Sonny says that he came to NYCW on a
recruiting mission, he’s been on his way to the PWA from the start. And now, D-Gunz is going with him. As for tonight, the two will go out with a bang
in their final NYCW appearances. D-Gunz
will destroy the myth of Solomon and break him down tonight, and Sonny will
defeat his old friend and rival Dulberg to win the NYCW title, and then take the
title to Frequency next week, leaving NYCW in shambles.
* MATCH 4: D-GUNZ VS. SOLOMON:
A tremendously anticipated match, the
fans, normally wholly against the monstrous Solomon, actually cheer him in this
final NYCW match of D-Gunz, already having debuted in the PWA. D-Gunz looks to make one final strike before
joining the PWA roster in defeating the massive and gargantuan Solomon, but the
monster from Barrow, Alaska has other plans.
D-Gunz’s attempt at a chokeslam is foiled, and he falls victim to a Deep
Freeze that is more than enough for the three.
Solomon prevails.
WINNER: SOLOMON (8:11)
* MATCH 5: NYCW WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
TOURNAMENT: FINALS: JENNY OTTATI VS. LIZ RUSH:
NYCW crowns a women’s champion in this
match, as heavy favorite Jenny Ottati battles Liz Rush. People expected this final to be Jenny
Ottati vs. Allison Kelly, but when that did not come to fruition, Allison
officially bolted the NYCW roster and is now a full-fledged member of the
PWA. Liz Rush, the relative unknown from
Detroit, does not have the crowd on her side in this match, and doesn’t mind
this in the least. Ottati, the huge fan
favorite, comes excruciatingly close to victory on several occasions, but can’t
put Rush away. This proves to be a
fatal mistake, as moments later, Liz Rush cradles Jenny Ottati and, illegally
using the ropes for extra leverage, records the three-count and become the
first NYCW Women’s Champion to the dismay of the crowd.
WINNER AND NEW NYCW WOMEN’S CHAMPION: LIZ
RUSH (5:03)
* MATCH 6: DA BANDITZ AND DYNAMITE DEAN NASH VS. THE OLD
SCHOOL AND MARTIN BLACKBURN:
Just one week away from their collision
for the inaugural NYCW Tag Team Championship, the Old School and Da Banditz do
battle tonight in six-man tag team action, involving two other currently
feuding superstars, popular Dynamite Dean Nash and snobby Martin Blackburn, who
is accompanied to the ring by his managed Jillian Clay. Nash and Blackburn put on a breathtaking
display of aerial wrestling in this one, but the real story of this match is Da
Banditz and the Old School. The finish
comes when, unbeknownst to the official, Bobby Burris of the Old School clocks
Jermaine Harris of Da Banditz with brass knuckles, covering him for the three
as Alex Mason prevents Charles Walker from breaking up the pin. The Old School has the momentum going into
next week’s title match.
WINNERS: THE OLD SCHOOL AND MARTIN
BLACKBURN (10:24)
* BACKSTAGE:
NYCW Champion Jon Dulberg is backstage
with Josh McGuire moments before his NYCW title match with Sonny. Dulberg says that he’s worked too long and
too hard to get to this title to have it taken away by a man that does not
deserve it. He promises the fans of
NYCW that Sonny WILL NOT leave NYCW with their title tonight. Tonight, Jon Dulberg will be vindicated.
* MATCH 7: NYCW HEAVYWEIGHT
CHAMPIONSHIP: “THE HUMAN HIGHLIGHT” JON
DULBERG © VS. SONNY:
The action is hot and heated from the
opening bell, as Dulberg and Sonny, two old rivals, go at it for the NYCW
Championship. The presence of D-Gunz at
ringside doesn’t seem to spell good news for the reigning champion but,
fortunately, before the match begins, Commissioner Jerry Georgatos shows up at
ringside and demands that D-Gunz return to the back. Dulberg and Sonny from thereon embark on a display of counters
and counters to those counters, showing the fans not only that Dulberg is a
deserving champion, but that after taking close to two years off, Sonny is
still just as good as he was the day he left CAW. In the end, after thirteen minutes of fierce battling, Dulberg
catches Sonny in a quick small package, picking up the victory and retaining
the championship! As the crowd
celebrates to Pantera’s “Walk,” Sonny backpedals out of the Hammerstein
Ballroom, on his way to the PWA, but with a very sour taste in his mouth. One has to believe that this feud will pick
up again somewhere, someday.
WINNER AND STILL NYCW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION:
JON DULBERG (13:28)
