NYCW
HAMMERSTEIN BALLROOM
NEW YORK, NY
THURSDAY, MARCH 13, 2003
* BACKSTAGE:
The show opens with Commissioner Jerry Georgatos on the
prowl, obviously looking for someone.
Finally, he reaches his target in Sonny, the man who showed up last week
and seemingly made deals with D-Gunz and Jon Dulberg to propel Dulberg into the
finals. Georgatos gets in Sonny’s face
and warns him that he will not accept any corruption in NYCW, and there will be
drastic consequences if anything otherwise is proven. Sonny denies any involvement and tells Georgatos he doesn’t know
what he’s talking about before walking away.
* MATCH 1: MARTIN
BLACKBURN (W/ JILLIAN CLAY) VS. DYNAMITE DEAN NASH:
The crowd is really into this opening contest, as these two
cruiserweights dazzle the fans with breathtaking counters and high-flying maneuvers. Blackburn’s valet, Jillian Clay, attempts to
interfere, but Nash overcomes the interference, counters a powerbomb into a
DDT, and picks up the win with a diving dragon attack.
WINNER:
DYNAMITE DEAN NASH (7:36)
* BACKSTAGE:
Backstage reporter Josh McGuire is standing by with Allison
Kelly, who will battle Jenny Ottati in the next match. Allison complains of being screwed out of a
berth in the Women’s Championship match to take place next week, and will pay
Ottati back for that with a vengeance tonight.
* MATCH 2: ALLISON KELLY VS. JENNY OTTATI:
The battle between these two females is
heated, as Allison tries to prove that she deserves to be competing for the
NYCW Women’s Championship next week, and Jenny tries to prove that her being in
said match is indeed the way it should have gone. Neither female disappoints in this match that many felt would be
the women’s title match from the get-go.
It goes back and forth, but the finish comes when Liz Rush, Ottati’s
opponent next week, comes to the ring and provides the distraction, allowing
Kelly to pick up the tainted win with a spinning neckbreaker.
WINNER: ALLISON KELLY (6:02)
* MATCH 3: KILAUEA VS. FRANK
BRIGGS:
The fans are heavily behind Kilauea in
this one, but the monstrous Frank Briggs is not impressed. Kilauea has his moments, but Briggs wins
with a huge running powerslam. After the
match, Briggs locks Kilauea in a sharpshooter for good measure, which disgusts
the crowd.
WINNER: FRANK BRIGGS (4:04)
* BACKSTAGE:
After the match, Josh McGuire catches up
with Frank Briggs as he approaches the dressing room. Briggs threatens McGuire and warns all of NYCW to beware, because
he will not rest until he is the icon of this company.
* BACKSTAGE:
The camera catches D-Gunz and Sonny
conversing backstage. Sonny hands
D-Gunz another fistful of cash and tells him to keep up the good work. They then exit in opposite directions.
* MATCH 4: ANTHONY “BK” DESIO AND THE
TYRANT VS. ANDREW LIVINGSTON AND D-GUNZ:
The fans don’t cheer D-Gunz in this
match as much as he was being cheered several weeks ago. Despite being in the ring with three giants,
Anthony Desio manages to hold his own, getting in his shots when necessary. Tyrant and Andrew Livingston battle it out
ferociously, feeding into their budding rivalry. However, it is D-Gunz who makes the biggest impact in this match,
annihilating both Desio and Tyrant with chokeslams for the win. After the match, D-Gunz surprises his
partner Livingston with a chokeslam, annihilating him as well.
WINNERS: D-GUNZ AND ANDREW LIVINGSTON (5:37)
* MATCH 5: TINA HOOVER VS. LI MEI:
Showing off her wrestling skills, Tina
Hoover makes very quick work of the hapless Li Mei. Li Mei has a few openings early in the match, but Tina locks her
in a painful chicken wing that easily spells the rapid end.
WINNER: TINA HOOVER (3:58)
* MATCH 6: NYCW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT: SEMIFINALS:
THE OLD SCHOOL (BOBBY BURRIS AND ALEX MASON) VS. DAMON SAVAGE AND DAMIEN
FIELDS:
The semifinals of the NYCW Tag Team
Championship tournament begin in this one, as the Old School of Bobby Burris
and Alex Mason goes up against the team of Damien Fields and Damon Savage. The fans like neither team, and hope that no
one wins. However, the real story in
this match becomes the constant battle for team supremacy between the
egotistical Fields and the even more egotistical Savage. Their inability to coexist leads to the Old
School taking over and finishing them off with a double top rope legdrop to
Fields. The Old School advances to the
finals.
WINNERS: THE OLD SCHOOL (8:27)
* MATCH 7: NYCW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
TOURNAMENT: SEMIFINALS: DA BANDITZ (JERMAINE HARRIS AND CHARLES
WALKER) VS. D-UNIT (MAVERICK AND DARKSTAR):
The other semifinal match pits two
upstart teams against each other, as Maverick and Darkstar, D-Unit, battles Da
Banditz, Charles Walker and Jermaine Harris.
The crowd is solidly behind Da Banditz in this one, and their
performance in the ring exhibits why they deserve this. D-Unit’s imposing bodyguard, Bubbles, tries
to interfere at ringside, but Da Banditz overcome and pin Darkstar after Total
Elimination. As Da Banditz celebrate
their victory, the Old School appears at the top of the ramp, commencing a
staredown between the two teams that will battle for the tag straps in two
weeks.
WINNERS: DA
BANDITZ (9:35)
* BACKSTAGE:
Jon Dulberg is shown undergoing final
preparations for his NYCW title match with Solomon next when Sonny walks
in. Sonny implies that he is
responsible for Dulberg getting to this match, which angers the Human
Highlight. Dulberg warns Sonny to stay
out of this match and Sonny swears that he will. As Dulberg leaves for the ring, a sly grin appears on Sonny’s
face.
* MATCH 8: NYCW HEAVYWEIGHT
CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT: FINALS: SOLOMON VS. “THE HUMAN HIGHLIGHT” JON
DULBERG:
The crowd comes alive for the main
event, to finally crown an NYCW Heavyweight Champion. Solomon is the heavy favorite in this match, but Dulberg doesn’t
think anything of this. Dulberg starts
the match on fire, trying to catch Solomon off guard and swing the match in his
advantage. The match goes back and
forth several times, with Dulberg surprisingly able to hold his own against the
6-9 293-pound monster from Barrow, Alaska, but consistently finds himself
caught by explosive power maneuvers by his opponent. After several hot back and forth exchanges, Dulberg has Solomon
on the defensive, but Solomon counters out of nowhere, hitting Dulberg with the
Deep Freeze. Solomon covers to end the
match, but immediately breaks it when he notices D-Gunz stalk to the ring and
get in his face. Sonny emerges from the
crowd and pulls the referee out of the ring, knocking him out. He then grabs a chair and slams Solomon in
the back with it. Solomon turns around
to attack Sonny, but D-Gunz storms the ring and he and Sonny engage in a brutal
two-on-one attack on Solomon. With
Solomon sufficiently beaten, Dulberg is dragged on top of him and the official
is thrown back into the ring. The
official counts the three and Jon Dulberg is the first NYCW Champion! As soon as the match concludes, Sonny and
D-Gunz enter the ring and, as D-Gunz continues to go to work on Solomon, Sonny
brutally attacks Dulberg! Sonny and D-Gunz
leave Solomon and the new NYCW Champion Jon Dulberg motionless in the ring as
this week’s show comes to a close.
WINNER AND NEW NYCW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION:
JON DULBERG (7:01)
