NYCW
HAMMERSTEIN BALLROOM
NEW YORK, NY
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2003
* RINGSIDE:
The opening credits roll and we are taken inside the
Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, where Jerry Georgatos is standing inside
the ring for the first ever New York Championship Wrestling television
taping. Georgatos announces that he has
been named the Commissioner of NYCW and promises the fans a great night. He runs down the card for the evening,
before Pantera’s “Walk” hits and he is interrupted by “The Human Highlight” Jon
Dulberg. Dulberg and Georgatos get into
a confrontation over which of them should get to open the show. Before long, Darkseed’s “Cold Under Water”
hits and the 6’9” 293 pound Barrow, Alaska native Solomon stalks to the ring,
leaving the crowd in awe. Solomon
stares Dulberg down, and Georgatos introduces Dulberg to the man that he claims
will be the future of wrestling.
Dulberg -- slightly concerned with the massiveness of this individual --
and Solomon stare each other down as the camera cuts to commercial
* MATCH 1: DAMIEN FIELDS
VS. BIG VERNON GOODWIN:
Back from commercial, the action begins. This first match pits the explosiveness and
speed of the sadistic heel Fields, against the sheer girth and fun-loving power
of Big Vernon from the Dirty South. The
big 300-pounder tries to put Fields away early, but Damien proves that stamina
and endurance is in fact a big deal, and puts Goodwin down for the count with
his variation of the Diamond Cutter, which the fans do not like.
WINNER: DAMIEN
FIELDS (6:34)
* MATCH 2: DYNAMITE DEAN NASH VS. DEION YOUNG VS. DAMON
SAVAGE VS. ROLAND HOLCOMB:
The first high-stakes match in NYCW
history, this four-way elimination match has a lucrative prize attached to
it: the winner will travel to Atlantic
City, New Jersey this Saturday to take on Steve Beovich in a dark match at the
PWA’s Temptation pay-per-view. The fans
immediately take to the charismatic Nash from Hollywood, Florida, along with fellow
Floridian Deion Young, who is no midget at 6’6” 302. Damon Savage, though at a size disadvantage in this one, is booed
either because of his cockiness on the way to the ring, or the fact that his
Wu-Tang entrance music is just naturally heel.
Holcomb, a dangerous psychopath from Waco, Texas, easily garners the most
heat of the night thus far. Deion Young
is the first eliminated, falling victim to a swinging DDT from Holcomb. Then, Dean Nash surprises Holcomb with a butterfly
suplex to gain a three count. Nash and
Savage then battle furiously for the right to wrestle dark at PWA Temptation,
but Damon Savage falls victim to Dean’s dynamite dragon attack, and comes up on
the short end of the stick. Dynamite
Dean Nash will head to Atlantic City to face Steve Beovich prior to the start
of PWA Temptation.
WINNER: DYNAMITE DEAN NASH (9:18)
* MATCH 3: WOMEN’S INVITATIONAL
BATTLE ROYAL: TINA HOOVER VS. DANA
CHAPMAN VS. LIZ RUSH VS. ALLISON KELLY VS. JENNY OTTATI VS. LI MEI:
In the second consecutive pinfall elimination
bout, the fans prepare to be introduced to a new crop of female superstars. While the females receive similar reactions
on the way to the ring, Tina Hoover, Liz Rush, and Allison Kelly develop boos
as the match goes on, with the other three being cheered. Li Mei is the first eliminated, pinned with a
diving reverse DDT from Kelly. Jenny
Ottati then makes her presence felt, pinning the impressive Tina Hoover with a
big moonsault. Liz Rush then forces
Dana Chapman to tap with a cobra clutch, bringing us down to three. Liz Rush and Allison Kelly double team the
explosive Jenny Ottati, but Ottati bursts out and nails Rush with the Maivia
hurricane, a move she calls Cali Dreamin, which is enough for the three,
leaving us with Ottati and Kelly. The
two rookies battle it out hard, but in the end, Allison Kelly picks up the
extremely impressive victory, pinning Jenny Ottati with her variation of the
eye of the hurricane.
WINNER: ALLISON KELLY (8:11)
* BACKSTAGE:
After the match, Allison Kelly is
interviewed by official NYCW backstage reporter Josh McGuire. Allison tells the fans that what just
happened is only the beginning. She will
tear through NYCW, beating any woman that is stupid enough to get in the ring
with her. She singles out Jenny Ottati,
offering her a rematch whenever she wants, as long as she realizes that she can’t
win. The fans boo, and we head back to
the ring.
* MATCH 4: ANDREW LIVINGSTON VS. THE
BLIZZARD:
The Blizzard comes to the ring, the
first recognizable superstar to compete tonight. At 5’11” 190, Blizzard is disturbed to learn that his opponent is
6’7” 305-pound prodigy Andrew Livingston.
He has good reason to be disturbed to, as the bell rings and Livingston
proceeds to tear him to itty-bitty pieces.
A gutwrench powerbomb officially leads to the pinfall, but some might
say this was over before it started.
WINNER: ANDREW LIVINGSTON (3:52)
* BACKSTAGE:
In the locker room, Commissioner Jerry
Georgatos introduces Macon, Georgia’s Charles Walker to Calhoun, Georgia’s
Jermaine Harris. He informs the two
that they will team tonight against the Minnesota duo of Bobby Burris and Alex
Mason, who have been teaming on the independent circuit for quite some time as
The Old School. Georgatos leaves the
two, and they get to talking. Before
long, the two click, and Walker comments that they will have to be bandits to steal
this win from an established team like the Old School. Harris laughs, but comments that they will
get the job done.
* MATCH 5: KILAUEA VS. FRANK BRIGGS:
When the big Hawaiian Kilauea hits the
ring dancing to “Here Comes the Hotstepper,” the NYCW fans know they have found
their fun-loving fan favorite. However,
when the 6’6” 328-pound Frank Briggs emerges, straight from Calgary… Alberta,
Canada, the fans are fearsome of what a big man trained in Wrestling Central
might bring to the table. They find
that answer out the hard way, as Briggs easily demolishes the big Hawaiian, putting
him away with an impressive Gorilla Press Slam, followed by a Sharpshooter,
showing off his Calgarian roots.
WINNER: FRANK BRIGGS (6:04)
* BACKSTAGE:
Jerry Georgatos is backstage in his
office, when a massive individual, about 6’6” 337, enters. This man is Salida, Colorado’s D-Gunz, one
of NYCW’s can’t-miss prospects. D-Gunz
demands to know why he wasn’t booked for tonight’s show, and Georgatos blows
him off, explaining that he is very busy.
D-Gunz doesn’t take this well and thrusts Georgatos up against the
wall. Before any harm can be done to
Georgatos, the monster Solomon appears from seemingly nowhere, and engages in
an intense staredown with D-Gunz. The
two behemoths continue to play the intimidation game as we head to commercial.
* MATCH 6: MARTIN BLACKBURN (w/ jillian clay) VS. ROB
GRAVES:
The fans immediately decide that they do
not like Blackburn and Clay, the couple from Greenwich, Connecticut that comes
to the ring to Beethoven. Rob Graves,
the big man from elsewhere in Connecticut, gets a warm response, and seems to
deserve it early in the match. However,
interference by Jillian Clay leads to Blackburn rolling Graves up and stealing
the victory to the chagrin of the fans.
WINNER: MARTIN BLACKBURN (9:17)
* MATCH 7: THE TYRANT VS. RYAN
VALENTINE:
In another battle of big men, 6’5”
310-pound Tyrant takes on 6’3” 292-pound Ryan Valentine. In this match, the more talented big man gets
the victory, as The Tyrant impresses every single fan in the arena. While Valentine gets the crowd going and
shows signs of promise, the Tyrant dominates this match, polishing Valentine
off with an impressive full nelson slam.
WINNER: THE TYRANT (5:15)
* MATCH 8: CHARLES WALKER AND JERMAINE
HARRIS VS. THE OLD SCHOOL (BOBBY BURRIS AND ALEX MASON):
The Old School lives up to their name
here, embarrassing the makeshift team of Walker and Harris with an array of
amateur wrestling takedowns. The fans
are turned off by the cockiness of the Old School and immediately take to the
heart and drive of Walker and Harris. Finally,
just when it appears that Burris and Mason have the match won, Harris pulls a
small package out of absolutely nowhere and pins Mason, sending the fans into a
frenzy and producing the biggest pop of the night! The commentators exclaim that the two truly were bandits tonight,
just as they said they must be earlier in the evening. Walker and Harris celebrate ardently and
Burris and Mason are furious.
WINNERS: CHARLES WALKER AND JERMAINE
HARRIS (7:27)
* MATCH 9: “THE HUMAN HIGHLIGHT” JON
DULBERG VS. ANTHONY “BK” DESIO:
Polishing off a lengthy PWA rivalry, Jon
Dulberg, easily the most popular superstar in the company, takes on his former
friend Desio. Desio wrestles the best
match of his entire life in this one, coming extremely close on several
occasions to finally pinning Dulberg. Desio
hits a huge jumping DDT that produced a heart-stopping two and three-quarters
count. In the end, Desio attempts to
hit the Play of the Day and defeat Dulberg with his own finisher, but Dulberg
slips out and hits the Play of the Day himself, pinning Desio for the
crowd-pleasing one, two, three! As
Dulberg celebrates in the ring, he is blindsided and attacked out of nowhere by
the gargantuan Solomon! A hush falls
over the crowd as Solomon begins picking the fatigued Dulberg apart, destroying
him with the variation of the F-5 that he calls Deep Freeze. Solomon then lifts Dulberg for a second, but
D-Gunz storms to the ring and begins pounding away on the big man. The fans cheer wildly, and D-Gunz
clotheslines Solomon over the top rope and checks on Dulberg. Solomon then backpedals up the ramp, staring
at D-Gunz as the big man stares right back at him, and we fade to black.
WINNER: JON DULBERG (11:38)
