NYCW
HAMMERSTEIN
BALLROOM
NEW YORK, NY
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2004
COMMENTATORS: JOSH
MCGUIRE & FERNANDO RAMIREZ
* The show opens with the co-commissioner of the PWA, Jerry Georgatos, coming
out to a chorus of boos. Georgatos gets
in the ring and reminds us all that he is the commissioner of NYCW and is here
to shake things up. He announces that
beginning next week, to mark the one-year anniversary
of NYCW, there will be a round robin tournament beginning, done much in the
same vein as an NFL season. There will
be 24 participants, divided into six divisions.
Sixteen weeks of matches will ensue, with twelve matches per week
beginning next week, until the schedule is complete. Members of the same division will wrestle
against one another twice, and the remainder of the schedule will consist of
non-division matchups. The season will end on May 27, and then the
six division winners plus two wild-cards will advance to a double-elimination
playoff. The playoffs will carry
throughout the month of June, with finals to be held June 29, at the 100th
episode of PWA Frequency, and, if necessary, July 6 at PWA Meltdown on
pay-per-view. The purpose of this
tournament? To award a new PWA contract. The winner of the tournament will be
immediately called up to the PWA, and he has the power to do just that as
co-commissioner of the PWA. He will
decide the 24 participants at his discretion, but to make things interesting,
he has signed five matches for tonight where the winners won’t have to worry
about the tournament; they will earn the right to go on the road immediately
with the PWA and leave NYCW behind.
Those matches will be NYCW Champion Greg Price vs. The Tyrant, for the
championship; Television Champion Kris Anthony vs. Damien Fields, for the
title; Women’s Champion Camieko vs. Liz Rush vs.
Erica vs. Hypnotica vs. Dana Chapman, for the title;
D-Gunz vs. Renegade; and Frank Briggs vs. a mystery
opponent of Georgatos’ choice. Georgatos
mentions that, yes, all of those titles will be on the line, and yes, the
winners of those matches will take those titles to PWA house shows for the time
being; NYCW titles will no longer be defended on NYCW broadcasts until this
tournament is complete. In addition, he
announces that Tim Dand and Patrick Brady have
returned to NYCW tonight, and Georgatos has decided to put them in a match for
the Tag Team titles. BUT if Dand and Brady do not capture the titles tonight, they are
fired. With that, Georgatos exits the
ring and our show commences.
