Esther Boyer Theater @
The PWA logo flashes onto the screen before showing a
montage set to “Stinkfist” by TOOL of several PWA
superstars and highlights that span the course of the past year. That follows
up with highlights from the careers of Mike Tortorici,
Vulture and Jason Calysto and after it wraps up, we
are taken inside the
Cade: Hello everyone and welcome to the second annual PWA
Awards Ceremony and first annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony! I’m Nick
Cade, alongside Rick Madsen, and Rick, this certainly has the makings of a
special evening tonight here in
Madsen: This past week here in Philly has been incredible
and this night here at
Cade: Tonight, we will see many PWA superstars honored for
their achievements throughout the past year and throughout their careers, but
one thing is for sure and that is that this will be a night to be remembered.
Madsen: Everlasting Epic 3 is going to deliver huge
tomorrow night, but let’s get this show on the road Nick!
Cade: Alright, here to kick things off and present the
2003-2004 PWA Woman of the Year, a man who knows a lot about the ladies, North
Philly give it up for “Da Playboi”,
Romeo!
B.G.’s “Hottest of
The Hot” plays over the sound system and a big round of applause greets Romeo
as he climbs up the steps and approaches the podium.
Romeo: This show is about 3 minutes old and already we on
fire here in Philly tonight! (Crowd cheers) Nick Cade couldn’t have put it any
better than he did. Who better than yours truly to present this year’s Woman of
The Year award? I know all there is to know about
women and I can definitely say that these five are all deserving of this award.
However, only one can win, so let’s get to the nominees.
Jade - Aligned herself with Walter
Gindin to capture two PWA Women's Championships, defeating Lauren Tantalus at a
house show in the Philippines and Dee Licious on Frequency in Paris, France to
tie Allison Kelly for the most Women's Titles won, with three.
Dee Licious - Won two PWA Women's
Championships, defeating Allison Kelly at Everlasting Epic 2 in
Camieko - Returned to PWA action in
February as the NYCW Women's Champion to nearly become PWA Women's Champion on
several occasions.
Lauren Tantalus - Won two PWA Women's Championships in her rookie year,
defeating Allison Kelly at Fallen Souls in Greensboro, NC and Jade at the
Symphony of Destruction in Houston, Texas. Also carried an
impressive undefeated streak from her debut until her first loss in October at Hellbent.
Traci Reed - Only female broadcaster/reporter in the PWA
delivered several fresh scoops throughout Overdrive, Frequency and Pay-Per-View
events.
Romeo: And the winner is…..Lauren Tantalus!
“Free” by VAST begins and a big ovation ensues for
Tantalus, who steps up to the podium and embraces Romeo as he hands her the
first PWA award of her career.
Tantalus: Thank you.
Thank you all. So here I am, only a year into my stay in the PWA, and I
hold the Woman of the Year award. Of course I’m not the least bit surprised. To
be a champion, you have to believe in yourself, and I’ve known from day one
that I’ve had the stuff to be the best wrestler the women’s division has ever
seen. Now, there have been some
circumstances over the past few weeks that leave my future in question, so if
this is the last chance I get, I want to thank you all for everything. I couldn’t have gotten to this point without
all of you. But, with that said,
Camieko, bring it on tomorrow night.
I’ll be ready.
As “Free” goes down, White Zombie’s “More Human Than Human”
hits and The Omega Steve Beovich comes up to the stage.
Beovich: It was just one year ago that I was standing in
The Naturals – Greg Price and Kris Anthony each
claimed the NYCW Television Championship before Price won the NYCW Heavyweight
Championship. After departing NYCW, they capped off their rookie years by
winning the PWA Tag Team Championship in
Lauren Tantalus - Won two PWA Women's
Championships in her rookie year, defeating Allison Kelly at Fallen Souls in
Greensboro, NC and Jade at the Symphony of Destruction in Houston, Texas. Also carried an impressive undefeated streak from her debut until
her first loss in October at Hellbent.
Jackie Baccaro – Became the
NYCW Television Champion and then defeated Briggs to become the only man to
hold that title and the NYCW Heavyweight Championship simultaneously. He then
went to the PWA to team with Paul Dawkins and defeat Infernus and Jonathan
Brett at Salvation in
Dynamite Dean Nash – Debuted in the PWA in
the winter and notched a huge upset victory over TFU’s
Reaper. Also defeated PWA Progressive Champion Showtime Damon Savage in a
non-title matchup to earn a title shot at the
Symphony of Destruction in
Briggs – Began his rookie year by upending
Ryan Knakal for the NYCW Heavyweight Title. Then debuted in the PWA on April 13 as Justin Schenck’s
enforcer, brining a powerful and dominating presence to the group.
Beovich: And the Rookie of The
Year….is Jackie Bacarrooooo!
“Black” by Sevendust hits and a
big round of applause greets Baccaro as he stands up and starts for the stage.
Halfway, he stops and goes back to his seat, summoning his tag team partner
Paul Dawkins to come up with him. Beovich hands the award to Baccaro and shakes
hands with both before Baccaro begins to speak.
Baccaro: Oh man. First up, I’d like to thank Bryan Conroy
for giving me the opportunity to come here and wrestle in the PWA. He saw my
work in NYCW and felt I was ready, and I can’t thank him enough for the
opportunity. Vulture (crowd cheers)….I’ll get to you later tonight, I promise
that. But most importantly, I must thank the man next to me, Paul Dawkins. He’s
made my game just as good as I’ve made his and it is for that reason that we
will become the two-time tag team champions tomorrow night. You can take that
to the bank Naturals. Thank you all!
“Black” replays as we head
backstage to Scott Cornelius.
Cornelius: I’m backstage with The
Omega Steve Beovich, and Steve, your speech was certainly interesting, but I
must ask you, where is your tag team partner Jon Dulberg this evening?
Beovich: Good question. As you know, we’ve got a match
against Scott Hosemann and Briggs tomorrow night and as important as that is to
me, it’s even more important to Jon. Remember that these guys took him out of
the game a few months ago and throughout his surgery and his rehab, all he’s
spoken about is how he wants payback on them. He has been waiting for tomorrow
night ever since the spring and he is here in Philly, but he’s a few blocks
away at Edberg-Olsen Hall doing some last minute leg training with the Owls
Football trainers. He’s waited for this match for months and he is serious
about extracting some revenge at The Linc.
Cornelius: He must be. Thank you and good luck tomorrow
night.
Beovich: Thanks Scotty.
-COMMERCIAL BREAK # 1-
Madsen: Can you believe that? Dulberg is missing this event
to train?!
Cade: Well he had knee surgery just a few months ago and he
remembers how painful rehab was. I wouldn’t want to be Hosemann or Briggs or
especially Justin Schenck tomorrow night.
We head back to the stage as Sepultura’s
“Refuse/Resist” hits. A big ovation meets GI Jew as he marches from the back
and to the podium, ordering the crowd to be seated.
Jew: Since everyone involved in my
match for the PWA Championship tomorrow has talked on and on and on about it, I
guess I’m expected to run my mouth too. But I’m not Solomon or Scythe. I don’t
need to talk about the ass I’m gonna kick. I simply do it. And tomorrow night,
I’m coming back to take what is rightfully mine, my PWA World Heavyweight
Championship! (Crowd cheers as camera cuts to a close-up of a stoic Scythe)
Now, onto the nominees for The Most Improved Wrestler of The
Year.
Scythe – Won his second PWA International
Championship by defeating Steve Beovich in a Ladder Match at Everlasting Epic 2
in New Orleans, Louisiana and claimed his first PWA World Heavyweight
Championship by eliminating 6 men to win the Symphony of Destruction in
Houston, Texas.
Romeo – Won his unprecedented fourth PWA Tag
Team Championship and eighth tag title overall by defeating S.I.N. and the Lost
Souls at Everlasting Epic 2 and won his first PWA International Championship at
Forsaken in Miami, Florida by upending Infernus. Also went into the Elite 8
Round of the Golden Ring Tournament by defeating Mike Troha.
Showtime Damon Savage – Lost to Evander Holyfield in their second
exhibition boxing match at Revival, but bounced back to defeat Justice for the
PWA Progressive Championship at Animosity in Boston, Mass.
Mike Grieco – Defeated Anthony Failla in the first barbed wire
match in PWA history at Hellbent in Toronto, Ontario
and chased the International Championship for months before finally capturing
it, his first-ever championship, at Requiem over Romeo in a ladder match.
Paul Dawkins – Went from talented mid-card
performer to one-half of the most dominant tag team champions in recent history
by teaming with Jackie Baccaro and winning the PWA Tag Team Championship from
Infernus and Jonathan Brett at Salvation in Tokyo,
Jew: Well what do you know? It’s the guy who’s
ass I get to kick first after regaining my title, Mike Grieco.
50 Cent’s “Da Repercussions” hits and Dee Licious screams
with excitement as she quickly walks up to the stage to grab the award. Grieco
follows suit and holds it high along with his International Championship belt
as he begins to speak.
Grieco: Besides my lady, I thank
one person. Me, myself and I! I took this International Title belt over 4
months ago and next week, I’m gonna put this award to even more use when I beat
GI Jew, Scythe, or even Solomon, yes you Solomon, to become the new World
Champion on Frequency. I’m out.
Cade: Can you believe that Grieco went through his speech and
made absolutely no mention of Anthony Failla, who he’ll face tomorrow night for
his title?
Madsen: There has to be a reason for that. Grieco must be
so excited about winning a World Title shot this Tuesday, that he is
overlooking the man who has given him immense trouble throughout the entire
summer.
Cade: He is outright scared of Anthony Failla and with him
trying to simply block out the fact that he must face him tomorrow night, I’m expecting to see a new champion.
The shot shifts back to the podium, where Traci Reed is
standing.
Reed: While all of our fans worldwide love to cheer their
favorite wrestlers, what good would it be if they didn’t have someone to hate?
Many people say that the bad guys make the best wrestlers in the industry, and
this group can certainly back up that claim. Here are the nominees for the Most
Hated Wrestler of The Year:
Mike Troha
Greg Tantalus
Mike Griffin
The Machine
Solomon
Reed: And the winner is…The Machine!
“H-K” by
Fear Factory hits and The Machine walks up to the
stage to nothing but a negative reaction from his fellow superstars and fans.
Machine: So everybody hates The Machine? That’s fine,
because tomorrow night, I’m really going to give the world a reason to hate me.
I am going to beat Jason Calysto into oblivion and retire him for good!
“H-K” hits
again as The Machine storms off the stage, seemingly unable to wait for his
confrontation with “The Iceman” tomorrow night.
Cornelius: I’m backstage with Walter Gindin, and Walter,
you look very upset. May I ask why?
Gindin: Well I thought my main man Solomon would take the
last award, but that’s alright because he’s gonna win the big one tonight and
the even bigger one tomorrow night at The Linc. But
to answer your question, this place just upsets me.
Cornelius: I hope that works out for you, good luck. Now
let’s head back to the stage.
As we return to the stage, KISS’ “War Machine” fades out
and the PWA Commissioner Kerry Cox speaks.
Cox: A few people might regard my PWA Comeback last year as
something sensational. I went head-to-head with Scott
Hosemann and Mike Griffin in some of the greatest matches of my career.
However, we have more superstars on this roster who have made far more
impressive comebacks than yours truly. Here are the nominees for Comeback of The Year.
Scythe - After recovering from a broken arm suffered
at the hands of Jonathan Brett in December, he returned in April to assist Team
PWA in their win over TFU at Requiem. Has gone undefeated on pay-per-view
events in 2004, defeating Jonathan Brett at Animosity, winning his first PWA
World Heavyweight Championship after eliminating six men and lasting over 55
minutes in winning the Symphony of Destruction, and defending his championship
against Hollywood Mike Griffin at Meltdown in Montreal, Quebec.
Rudy Montenora – Returned to the ring after a
14-month hiatus at Everlasting Epic 2 in
Vulture - Recovered from extensive neck surgery in
September to win the PWA Tag Team Championship with Jaguar over TFU at Revival
in
Jonathan Brett – Came back from a devastating
ankle injury
Anthony Failla – Returned from career
threatening shoulder surgery in May of 2004 on Frequency to target
International Champion Mike Grieco. Nearly defeated Grieco in
Cox: And the winner is….hard to argue this choice. Vulture!
“Falling From The Sky” by VAST plays and a big ovation greets Vulture
as he steps onto the stage and shakes hands with Cox to accept his second award
of the evening.
Vulture:
Thank you. I’m gonna keep this
short, since I’ll be back up here for the Hall of Fame inductions later
tonight, but I want to thank everyone for supporting me in the Comeback of the
Year. Earlier tonight, I won the award
for Moment of the Year, for when I tossed Magnifica
right the hell out of a PWA building and the company for good last summer. Now, that moment felt great, and it felt
great to win that award, but this award means a bit more to me. It’s a culmination of eight months’ worth of
hard work, and I’m not gonna let this comeback end in vein. Tomorrow night, Greg Tantalus will be the cap
off of the Comeback of the Year, and I will leave this city with my hand
raised. You can bank on it.
-COMMERCIAL BREAK # 2-
Cade: I’m just itching to see Vulture take on Greg Tantalus
tomorrow night at Everlasting Epic.
Madsen: It will be Vulture’s final match of his illustrious
career, but Greg Tantalus is the best spoiler in this business and you know
he’ll be out to ruin it all for Vulture tomorrow night.
Cade: Well let’s get up to the podium, where The Naturals
are waiting.
Price: You know something Kris, its
almost like the PWA is looking into the future with us up here for the Tag Team
of the Year award.
Anthony: Well this year, we are presenting the award to
whichever low-class team manages to win it. That’s only because we didn’t
arrive until the year was almost over, but next year, we are guaranteed to take
the award.
Price: Naturally. We are the top team in the game right now
and we have the belts to prove it, but let’s go ahead and give this thing out
because I need to rest up before destroying Paul Dawkins and Jackie Baccaro
AGAIN tomorrow night.
Anthony: The nominees:
Paul Dawkins/Jackie Baccaro – Makeshift tag team soared to
PWA Tag Team Championship at Salvation by beating Infernus and Jonathan Brett
in Tokyo,
Hot Boy$ - Won their unprecedented and still
unmatched fourth PWA Tag Team Championship at Everlasting Epic 2 in New Orleans
by defeating S.I.N. and The Lost Souls in the first ever 3-team Gates of Hell
Match.
TFU – After a lengthy split, Mike Griffin and
Greg Tantalus reformed their unit to win the PWA Tag Team Championship for the
second time by defeating the Lost Souls and Hot Boy$ in a triple threat match
at Fallen Souls in Greensboro, NC.
Jon Dulberg/Steve Beovich – Reformed their
late-2002 team to capture the PWA Tag Team Championship for the first time at Hellbent in
Infernus/Brett – With
Speed Demon as a replacement for the injured Jaguar, Infernus and Brett
defeated Demon and Vulture on Frequency in Baton Rouge,
Price: And the winners are….Dawkins and Baccaro?!
Cade: Oh man!
Madsen: Dawkins and Baccaro won and The Naturals have to
present them with the award!
“Black” hits again and the former Tag Team Champions
eagerly rush to the stage and get face-to-face with The Naturals, who they will
meet tomorrow night! A standoff ensues until Price and Anthony slowly back away
and the crowd boos as they walk off the stage.
Dawkins: This one’s for Philly right here! (Crowd cheers) I
wish we could do a longer speech, but Naturals, thanks for this award. You’ll
feel even worse tomorrow when we take our belts back.
Cornelius: I’m backstage with the Progressive Champion,
Showtime Damon Savage and “Not That” Rodney King. Showtime, you executed what some feel was a brilliant plan
earlier this week when you attacked Dean Nash and James Biamonte, knowing you
will face them in defending your title in a ladder match tomorrow evening. What
are your thoughts about that?
Savage: Of course it was
brilliant, you see neither of them is here tonight. I’m sure they’ll be ready
to go tomorrow night, but it won’t matter. I didn’t win my nomination tonight,
but I’m guaranteeing one thing and that is Showtime is coming with this belt
and he’s also leaving with it. Got it?
Cornelius: Got it.
Savage: Good.
Thursday’s “Understanding In A Car
Crash” hits and a standing ovation greets PWA Owner Bryan Conroy as he makes
his way to the podium.
Conroy: This has been one of the greatest nights in the
history of the PWA and we have all of you great people to thank for that, so
give yourself a round of applause Philly! (Crowd cheers) The hospitality here
has been awesome and we truly thank you for that. Everlasting Epic 3 is
tomorrow night and I’m sure some of the matches there will be in this category
next year, but now let’s get to the nominees for Match of The Year.
Jaguar/Calysto for the PWA World Heavyweight
Championship on Frequency at
Griffin/Calysto for the PWA World Heavyweight
Championship at Everlasting Epic 2
Hot Boy$ vs. Solomon and GI Jew in TLC for
the PWA Tag Team Championship at Walking Wounded
Jaguar/GI Jew Hell In
A Cell at Hellbent
Griffin/Cox for the PWA World Heavyweight
Championship at Hellbent
Calysto/Machine Career vs. Career at Revival
Elimination Chamber for the PWA World
Heavyweight Championship at Salvation
8 vs.8 TFU vs.
PWA Double Steel Cage at Requiem
GI Jew vs. Vulture for the PWA World
Heavyweight Championship at Animosity
Symphony of Destruction for the PWA World
Heavyweight Championship won by Scythe
Conroy: And the winning match is….(opens
envelope) whoa. Alright, to the two men that won this award,
do not come up on stage. You need to stay as far apart from each other as
possible, until tomorrow night. Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Jason
Calysto and The Machine!
Calysto and Machine stand up and glare at each other from
opposite ends of the room, trading verbal shots as we had back to our
commentators.
Madsen: Talk about Vulture and Tantalus? That is a fight I
want to see. Calysto-Machine II.
Cade: The street fight variety
this time. It’s going to be a crazy match. Both careers are guaranteed to be
affected by it and I can’t even begin to make a call on that one. Now let’s get
back to the podium for our next award.
The presenter for the next award remains a mystery until
“Parabola” by TOOL begins and Hollywood Mike Griffin approaches the podium. His
boos barely die down as he begins to talk.
Scythe
Jaguar
Vulture
Romeo
GI Jew
Linkin Park’s “With
You” begins and a huge ovation welcomes the current PWA World Heavyweight
Champion to the podium for the second time tonight. Scythe extends his hand to
Scythe: What a bitter guy he is. I hope you kick his ass
Jag. But anyway, to all the fans, thank you, thank you, thank
you. This has been such an up and down year for me, but it is because of you
guys that we are extending the summer of Scythe into the year of Scythe. I
missed too much time due to injury to be considered for the Wrestler of The Year award, but my win tomorrow night and my retaining
of this title will definitely put me off to a great start. Thank you and I’ll
see you all tomorrow night.
“With You” plays again as Scythe
makes his way backstage and we head to a commercial break.
Cade: Can’t argue with Scythe in that category.
Madsen: Oh he’s definitely a fan favorite, and he’ll be the
crowd favorite tomorrow, but he’s got one helluva
mountain to climb as well.
Cade: Sure does. We’ve got one award left folks and we’ll
be right back to announce The Wrestler of The Year.
-COMMERCIAL BREAK
# 3-
Cade: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the 2002-2003
PWA Wrestler of The Year, Jaguar!
“I Got That Fire” by Juvenile and Manny Fresh begins and
another huge pop brings Jaguar to the stage. He motions for the crowd to sit
down as his music stops playing.
Jaguar: Mike Griffin, you didn’t want me to win that last
one because I woulda whupped
your ass right here on this stage. You’ve got no shot in this one, so I’ll see
you tomorrow night chump. Now, to the biggest award of the
evening. I won this award last year and I can’t begin to tell you what
it means to be The Wrestler of The Year. It’s the
pinnacle of our sport, the top of the mountain. Its
what Hall Of Famers like Vulture, Jason Calysto and
Mike Tortorici are made of. I’ve got plenty more to
say, but I’ll be back up here in a little bit, but now onto the nominees:
Vulture - Recovered from extensive neck
surgery in September to win the PWA Tag Team Championship with Jaguar over TFU
at Revival in
Mike Tortorici - In
his final year of in-ring competition, Tortorici
defeated Mike Griffin for the PWA World Heavyweight Championship on Frequency
in
Mike Griffin – Won his first PWA World
Heavyweight Championship by defeating Jason Calysto at Everlasting Epic 2 in
New Orleans, Louisiana and had the second-longest reign in history with wins
over Vulture, Kerry Cox, The Machine, Jaguar and Greg Tantalus before losing
the title to Mike Tortorici on Frequency in Montreal,
Quebec in October. Reformed TFU in November with Tantalus to
capture his third PWA Tag Team Championship at Fallen Souls in
Solomon – Overwhelmingly defeated every superstar he faced
since starting his career in June of 2003 at the Symphony of Destruction,
including Vulture, Jaguar, Kerry Cox, Romeo, Rudy Montenora, Speed Demon, and
GI Jew several times without a single loss via pinfall
or submission. Retired Loki from active competition in dominating fashion in
the winter of 2003 and made it to the Elite 8 round of the Golden Ring
Tournament before losing to GI Jew via disqualification.
GI Jew - Won his first PWA Tag Team Championship
and completed the first-ever Grand Slam in PWA history by winning a TLC match
against The Hot Boy$ at Walking Wounded in Phoenix, Arizona. He soon turned on
his partner Jaguar and amazed fans in a memorable Hell In
A Cell match against him at Hellbent in
Jaguar: Well, even though he is the only one nominated who
didn’t win the World Championship, you can only beat who you face, so the
2003-2004 Wrestler of The Year…is Solomon!
Madsen: Oh God.
Cade: Solomon has done it!
Madsen: I can’t be too happy for him; the guy put me
through a table last year.
Darkseed’s “Hear
Me” booms through the speakers as Solomon and an ecstatic Walter Gindin step to
the podium to accept the award. Boos flood the air as Gindin raises his arms in
victory and his client begins to speak.
Solomon: Can’t say I didn’t deserve this, so I thank no one
but myself. But tomorrow night, I complete my ultimate goal. I will defeat both
Scythe and GI Jew to finally become the Heavyweight Champion of The World, and boys, there isn’t a damn thing you can do
about it.
Solomon stares a hole through Scythe as “Hear Me” replays
for his exit from the stage.
Cade: Well fans, Solomon is now our
reigning Wrestler of The Year. Will he reign as PWA Champion tomorrow night?
Madsen: After how he beat Scythe
this week, it’s hard to bet against him.
Cade: This concludes the first half of our broadcast. We’ll
be right back for the first-ever Progressive Entertainment Hall of Fame
inductions!
